[LCH] The report from our Sino-European CII workshop is now available!

Critical Internet Infrastructure (CII) includes key technical elements that ensure the stability and security of the global Internet, such as satellite systems, subsea telecommunications cables, and DNS servers. Their protection and regulation pose significant legal challenges, especially in the context of the growing role of new technologies and international cooperation.

The report, edited by Dr. Joanna Kulesza and Dr. Berna Akçali Gur, summarizes the workshop held on December 13, 2024, organized by Lodz Cyber Hub (University of Lodz) and the United Nations University – Centre for Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS). The event featured experts from Europe and China who presented various regulatory perspectives and discussed:

  • The definition and significance of CII in the European and Chinese contexts,
  • The existing legal frameworks and approaches to CII management,
  • Challenges related to the protection of satellite systems in low Earth orbit (LEO) and subsea infrastructure,
  • Opportunities for regional cooperation in enhancing the security and resilience of CII.

The report provides an overview of research and analyses concerning the evolution of legal regulations in this field.
