During Kata European Judo Championships, Poles performed in all 5 kata, in which competitions of the highest rank are played.
The Polish national team consisting of 15 pairs (30 people) was a huge success in the categories of seniors (8 pairs) and juniors (7 pairs), winning 9 medals – three medals in the junior category (gold, silver and bronze) and 6 medals in the senior category (2 silver and 4 bronze medals). It is worth mentioning that these have been the first medals for the Polish Judo Kata team in the history of Polish judo.
Residents of Lodz also found themselves in this elite group of Polish medalists. UL Academic Sports Club players, i.e., Leszek Piąstka and Anna Jagiełło, employees of the University of Lodz Physical Education and Sports Centre, won the third place in the Kodokan Goshin Jutsu competition. The current European bronze medalists are seven-time Polish champions.
The last two gold medals were won during the last Polish Championships in Judo Kata, which were played in Radom on 13 June this year. The UL Academic Sports Club players won in two competitions: Kodokan Goshin Jutsu and in Kime no kata, defeating, among others the current silver and bronze medalists of the Kata European Judo Championships.
