Leksykon polityki klimatycznej współtworzony przez zespół UniLodz

In times of information overload, ubiquitous greenwashing and fake news, it is important to provide professional knowledge on climate change, its sources and consequences, and the actions that need to be taken, as well as to present it in an understandable and friendly way. The "Leksykon polityki klimatycznej" [Lexicon of Climate Policy], the first such publication in Poland, addresses this challenge.

The lexicon combines scientifically grounded knowledge with a popular science method of disseminating it. It contains as many as 84 entries. They are diverse not only in terms of topics, but also in terms of the form and nature of the description. Some are typically scientific, while others refer to phenomena and social movements. The lexicon is also rich in examples, interesting facts and sources helpful in deepening the information presented in its pages. The attractiveness of the publication is also demonstrated by its accessible graphic design.

The lexicon is the voice of a broad, interdisciplinary team of scientists from various centres and operating in many organisations, including the Climate Protection Division of the Polish Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, the Working Group for Social Responsibility of Universities operating at the Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, and the Climate Crisis Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

A large part of the contribution to the Lexicon came from people working and studying at the University of Lodz. The scientific co-editor of the Lexicon is Dr Agnieszka Rzeńca, and its authors include: Prof. dr hab. Joanna Wibig, dr hab. Elżbieta Antczak, Associate Professor at the Univeristy of Lodz, dr hab. Małgorzata Burchard-Dziubińska, Associate Professor at the Univeristy of Lodz, dr hab. Edyta Łaszkiewicz, Associate Professor at the Univeristy of Lodz, Dr Agnieszka Rzeńca, Dr Natalia Szubska-Włodarczyk, mgr Klaudia Kamińska and lic. Stanisław Roszczyk.

The Lexicon's qualities are emphasised by its reviewers:

The key values of the Lexicon are:

  • innovative nature,
  • interdisciplinary approach,
  • high value from the point of view of disseminating science and knowledge on climate change and climate policy,
  • an inspiring role in terms of integrating the scientific community dealing with climate issues from the perspective of different scientific fields and disciplines

– Prof. dr hab. Bogusław Fiedor

"Leksykon polityki klimatycznej" is an extremely interesting work that makes a significant contribution to understanding the complex process of creating and implementing climate policy. The authors present key issues related to this topic in an accessible and systematic way, which makes the book a valuable tool for both researchers and practitioners dealing with climate policy. The value of the publication is enhanced by the fact that the entries developed are not only scientific, but also refer to current social phenomena and climate movements, which allows for a better understanding of the context of climate policy in today's world

– Dr hab. Katarzyna Dośpiał-Borysiak, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz

The lexicon has filled a gap in the popularisation of knowledge about climate change. It allows you to gain and deepen your knowledge of broadly understood climate policy. It can also be a source of inspiration for taking pro-climate actions and developing interests. In addition, the lexicon will be helpful in the didactic process in very different fields of study: natural, agricultural, economic and social-humanistic.

Importantly, the Lexicon can be downloaded free of charge from the website of the Foundation of Environmental and Resource Economists..
