Changes in electronic communications
At the University of Lodz, we believe that strength lies in diversity. Respect and openness to other points of view are the foundations on which we base our activities. Introducing the possibility of using preferred data is a gesture of support and understanding to make life at the university easier for all of us. The use of data overlays within the Office package is an important step in this direction. Work to extend this solution to other systems, such as the externally managed USOS is still underway.
Other forms of support
The introduction of preferred data in digital tools is just one element of assistance. Our university also offers psychological support provided by the Academic Support Centre of the University of Lodz. Those in need can contact trained specialists who conduct confidential consultations, tailored to the specific needs of transgender and non-binary people. When it comes to using appropriate names, surname endings and pronouns, the Academic Support Centre also declares support in contacts with the university administration and lecturers.
Human University
For years our university has been striving to create an environment in which everyone can thrive, regardless of their identity. Relationships between students, researchers and administration should be based on mutual understanding and trust. Using preferred names and pronouns will additionally strengthen the sense of security and belonging to the academic community. We believe that this is yet another step towards building an institution that proudly promotes equality and respect.
