What to Expect:
An interactive space for exchange of ideas for students and professionals: in this session, Dr. Chaya will present the challenges and opportunities of managing critical Internet infrastructure in the Middle East region, focusing on key aspects such as security and sustainable development. The proposed agenda for our meeting is as follows:
- Introduction to the Internet ecosystem and the role of the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs)
- Internet infrastructure in the Middle East: challenges and achievements.
- The evolution of Multistakeholder Internet governance in the Middle East
- Public Policy in shaping the Internet ecosystem.
- Open Floor Discussion (~30 minutes): An interactive Q&A to address students' perspectives and questions.
The aim of the session is to create an interactive space for the exchange of ideas, and we encourage everyone to actively participate in discussions!

About the Speaker:
Dr. Chafic Chaya, Regional Manager - Public Policy and Government Affairs for the Middle East Region, based at the RIPE NCC Dubai office, has 25 years of experience in managing internet infrastructure, focusing on connectivity, peering, routing security, and capacity building. His work in public sector relations, collaborating with governments and international organizations to create a secure and resilient Internet environment, has made him one of the leading experts in this field. Dr. Chaya holds a Doctoral Degree in Internet Governance from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom.

RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre) is a non-profit organization responsible for managing the Internet’s address space and supporting network infrastructure development in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. RIPE NCC coordinates internet resources, such as IP addresses and Autonomous Systems (AS), and promotes network security and stability across these regions.

This class is primarily dedicated to first year computer science students from the University of Lodz, enrolled in the Legal Aspects of Computer Science course at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in the current academic year. Individuals outside the group who wish to join are asked to send an empty email with the subject "LCH Master Class 01" to: lch@wpia.uni.lodz.pl by January 13, 2025. You will receive a link to the session. Registration is required for security purposes.
