Łódzcy italianiści na Międzynarodowym Festiwalu Rubinsteina

An Italian-Polish event as part of the international Rubinstein Piano Festival was held at the Biedermann's Palace on 25 October 2024. This year, the Rubinstein Foundation invited Italianists from Lodz to join the celebration.

Artur Rubinstein, who was an outstanding pianist from our city, had an exceptional appreciation for Italian culture. For this reason, the organisers of this year's Rubinstein Piano Festival decided to combine music with poetry in such a way as to effectively promote the memory of the most famous artist from Lodz.

The meeting was graced by the presence of Ewa Rubinstein, the musician's daughter and promoter of his work, as well as lecturers and students of Italian Philology at the University of Lodz. Wojciech Grochowalski (the originator) and Dr Katarzyna Kowalik (Department of Romance Literary Studies) were responsible for organising the event.

The poetry part of the meeting was an opportunity to get to know the work of Renato Gabriele, who is an Italian poet and prose writer, particularly distinguished in popularising Polish literature in Italy. The poet presented a selection of his latest poems in Italian. The audience could familiarise themselves with the Polish versions of the works translated by Dr Maria Błasińska-Morawiec. The texts were presented by students of Italian studies: Wojciech Grodzki, Patrycja Pabich, Michalina Bliźniewska, Wiktoria Sitowska, Zuzanna Kolbus, Jakub Klimas and Mateusz Woźny.

The musical part began with an introduction by Dr Silvia Bruni, a musicologist from the Jagiellonian University. A rich repertoire of Italian pieces was performed by the pianist Marek Szlezer, Professor at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow.
