What is Letter Writing Marathon?

The Letter Writing Marathon is the world's largest human rights campaign. Every year around the International Human Rights Day, millions of people all over the world unite to stand up for specific people whose rights are violated and change their fate. We write letters to decision-makers who have a real impact on the fate of the people in question and send words of support to them and their loved ones.

This year's leitmotiv of the marathon is the Right to Peaceful Assembly. Demonstrations constitute an extremely important tool for social change, yet authorities around the world brutally suppress and illegally ban gatherings. Let us show our support to those facing imprisonment and persecution simply because they dared to speak out against injustice!

How can I send my letter, help and take part in the event?

Sending the letter is very simple. You neither need an envelope nor a stamp – all the appeals will be sent by the students from the Student and Doctoral Student Science Club for Journalism. Just drop your letters into the mailbox. You can write your own appeal to the authorities or use a ready-made template to copy. The club representatives will be waiting for you at the Faculty of Philology. They provide paper and all the necessary equipment.

As part of this year’s Letter Writing Marathon, the UL Student and Doctoral Student Science Club for Journalism has prepared a competition for those who will write the most letters and deliver them to the organisers to the marathon stand.
